The goat trees are named for the time when goats roamed freely around the
island. They learned that they could walk from the low hanging limbs up
to higher limbs to escape the alligators that also roamed about.
Directions:
The goat trees are located east of the 3 way stop. After
coming over the bridge onto the island, take a left on Bienville at the stop
sign. Traveling east take a left on Grant across from Cadillac Square. The
goat trees are the large mossy oaks on the corner of Grant and Hubert. Park
off the road being careful not to block any driveways. The "Friends
of Dauphin Island" have cleaned out paths around the goat trees for even
better birding!!
The goat trees:
The goat trees are great for many of the warblers, vireos, and gnatcatchers.
