Directions:
Pelican point is located east of the 3-way stop
after coming over the bridge onto the island.
Travel east on Bienville until it stops. It's just that easy. You will pass
Fort Gaines on your right.
Pelican Point birding areas:
To the right of the road, their is and open grassy field. Birds seen in this
field can include:
Sparrows (savannah, grasshopper, swamp, song), flycatchers (scissor tail,
eastern kingbirds) and small raptors (kestrels, merlins).
The rock jetties in the bay can best be viewed with a spotting scope. Birds
that
can be seen here include:
gulls (herring, ring-billed, laughing, bonapartes,
Franklin's).
The beach areas past the end of the road are great for small shorebirds. These
may include:
ruddy turnstones, sandpipers (many kinds), willets.
