Directions:
The
public beach
at Dauphin Island is located west of the water tower. Turn right on
from the 3 way stop. The public beach area is just past the
Little Red School House
on your left.
Public beach birding:
This is an area that is definitely not strictly for birding, but also offers
the best beaches on the area. A great
fishing pier
goes 850 feet
into the gulf and can be used to spot ocean birds.
The beach area can contain the more common waders, pipers, and peeps
and an occasional cormorant or loon can be seen.
A good scope can be used to spot birds on nearby sand island.
If nothing else, when you may need a rest from birding, stop by here and take
a break on one of the many elevated and covered picnic areas.
